The Jockeys of Del Mar charity event held Saturday, August 15th at Erik Skoldberg Gallery in Del Mar was a well attended and enjoyable evening and raised $5,100 to support the work of the Winners Foundation. The event also served as a celebration of the Laffit Pincay Jr. Award, which was awarded to Victor Espinoza the following day at Del Mar Racetrack, and jockey star power added excitement and glamour to the evening. In addition to the Hall of Famers, several other California riders were in attendance including Espinoza, who received well-earned applause as he spoke about the honor of receiving the Pincay Award.
It was a perfect, balmy Del Mar evening for the guests, who enjoyed cocktails and delicious hors d’oeuvres provided by Il Fornaio Restaurant. The evening culminated with a live auction of paintings, including a special Skoldberg rendering of American Pharoah that received very lively bidding. Auctioneer for the event was radio and television personality and founder of Great Friends Racing, Scott Kaplan.
